Sunday morning…I’m sitting on my front porch to watch and listen to the rain. I’m also remembering my late husband. He planted these azaleas. And so, I wrote the following poem this morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exhausted
the last yard work he did
was in this landscape
exhausted
he sat on the ground
in the sun
and pulled weeds
his worn, white, cloth hat
atop his head
I can see him. What a beautiful gift he gave you. Hugs! PS I love your poem!
Thank you so much Dawn. I have beautiful flowering shurbs and plants in my yard. I owe the planting of those to Doug. I do see him often (in memories) in the yard. I’m catching your hug and sending one back to you.
Yes, he did give me lots of flowers. When we were young, they came in vases, when older, they were planted in the yard and sometimes picked and brought to me as a delightful surprise. Always very good to see you here, Kathy. Love ya.
Thank you, Claudia. He planted early, middle, and late bloomers. I still have azaleas blooming and one more variety after this blooming ends. Have a great holiday weekend. Glad to see you here.
