self-love is letting go
of broken promises
promises I’ve made
and ones made to me
promises made with good intention
and ones made with no intention
broken promises are
yesterday’s news

Sabra, I really like this one. It’s just what everyone needs to read and think about. So much resentment gets buried inside a person because of broken promises, toward self or others. This is an excellent purge. Great job and one I’ll have to use in my own year. Thanks so much, my friend.

I like this poem a lot. I do think we have to let go of broken promises. We have to forgive ourselves for not keeping those we made & forgive others for not keeping those they made, realizing that sometimes good intentions just can’t be carried through on. I also like the idea of having a WORD for 2014 & think ‘purge’ is a good one!

There’s something truly liberating about letting go of expectation. We all make promises we can’t keep…maybe for good reasons, but when not followed through, they definitely weigh down our souls. Powerful writing!

If only life was treated with the same seriousness as a business transaction. One thinks very carefully before breaking a contract but not too much about breaking a promise.
